Pantone公司从它3000多种色彩库中挑出18-3943作为08年的第一色彩，这个色号代表的是Iris Blue——一种蓝色和紫色的混合色彩。

　　Pantone公司的总监Leatrice Eiseman女士说："Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspects of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic."在随后的电话采访中，Eiseman说这个色彩是经过深思熟虑的，是从五个候选色彩中最终选出的。

　　不过，在纽约时报对一些业内人士的采访中，出现诸多质疑："我很尊重Pantone公司，但我只把它的色卡看成一种工具。如果Helmut Lang来做这个项目，我会在意。"
