状语从句(一) 2007-11-14

1) 当主句动词为结束性动词时通常译为“直到...... 才”,当主句动词为延续性动词时,通常译为“不到......就"。

Don't go untill I come.( go 为结束性动词)

He didn't wait untill I returned.(wait为延续性动词)

2)not untill 位于句首时,主句用到装语序

Not untill the rain stopped did he leave the room.

三 before和after引导的时间状语从句

We'll leave here befroe he comes back.

I'll leave after he comes back.

= I won't leave untill(before) he comes back.

* 当主句和从句的主语一致时,before和after从句可以变成一个由before或after组成的介词词组。

He went to bed after he finished his homework.(从句)

= he went to bed after finishing his homework.(简单句)

I brushed my teeth before I eat breakfast.(从句)

= I brushed my teeth before (eating) breakfast.(简单句)

四 as soon as , no sooner...... than,hardly(scarely)......when(before)和the moment (that)引导的时间状语从句

1 as soon as:一......就......;有时表示”如......那么早或快,否定句中也可用so soon as.

I'll go with you as soon as I funish my work.

He didn't get there as(so) soon as he (had) expected.

2 no sooner......than: 刚.....就......。主句通常用过去完成时,从句通常用一般过去时;若将no sooner置于句首,要用到装句形式。

We had no sooner reached the airport than the plane took off.

= No sooner had we reached the airport than the plane took off.

hardly .... when(before).... = no sooner...... than.....用法也相同,hardly可以换成scarcely。

I had hardly(scarcely) closed my eyes when the tlephone rang.

Hardly had he arrived when(before) he had to leave again.

3 the moment (that) 用作连词,相当于as soon as:

I started the moment I got your letter.

The moment I saw him I knew that there was no hope.

五 since, once和whenever引导的时间状语从句

1 since(自从....以来):引导的时间状语从句中的动词用过去时,主句用现在完成时。

I worked in this company since I graduated from Beijing University.

2 once(一旦):

Once you understand this rule, you will have no further difficulty.

*若主句和从句的主语一致,有时也可以用其省略结构,被省略部分通常(并不总是)包括动词be。

Once(it is ) printed, the book will be very popular.

Once having make a promise, you should keep it.

3 whenever:表示“每当”,与when同义,语气更强;表示“无论什么时候”,相当于no matter when.

Whenever(When) I do that, I get into trouble.

Whenever(No matter when) you come, you are welcome.
